ENI Norge uses the PLT on the Goliat FPSO.

ENI Norge uses the PLT on the Goliat FPSO.

Goliat FPSO operating in the Barents Sea is using a new concept for off-loading where the PLT is a vital part of the operation.

The PLT system has long been a preferred tool to transfer lines between vessels at sea due to its accuracy and reliability. For Goliat this means that the PLT will function as the spear tip of a messenger line system of approximately 1000 meters in total.

The benefit of using the PLT in this operation is its accuracy, reach and being the most cost effective method of transferring lines. The operational distance for the tankers are 250 meters from the FPSO.

The operation consists of two scenarios where the preferred is to use a stand by vessel in order to shorten the transfer time.

Please see the Videos of the operation here.

“The experience to date has been extremely positive, the PLT Minis are a big improvement on what we had before. The throw width is greater, they are easier for the crew to handle and the CO2-based throwers are cheaper than using ammunition.”
